Today's world seems filled with challenges. Daily, our media blare all the details of imperfect occasions, complete with lurid video from cell phones and handheld cameras. We are inundated with errors, tragedies, crimes and disasters. It seems as if that's all there is.
But are these troubles really all there is, all we have to look forward to? Look around you. How much of what you see right now, this moment, is of your choosing? How much of it pleases you? How much of what surrounds you is beautiful?
If thoughts become things, as many believe, wouldn't you rather think about what you love than stare at things you don't want in open mouthed horror?
That's how I feel about poetry.
That's why I write about joy, or beauty, or finding a true thing amidst the refuse of our fears.
Come, take a moment to rest from the unwanted news of our times. Perhaps a single ray of sunlit hope is all that's needed to light the way.
